Rear seat back removal?
Some things you would think would be simple..Yeah, maybe if you have done them before.
I have been wanting to take the rear seat "back" out of my 1980 Malibu, so I can remove the hardshelf for painting. No problem with the bottom. What's the trick with the back removal??
Thanks,
Bill

the bottom may be bolted like denny said try pushing back if it will not move it is bolted and the back i think is bolted down with the seat belts with torxs style bolts you may want to put penetrant oil let them sit. and some times a good blast with a hammer helps loosen up the rust bond on themIrish Diplomacy ..the ability to tell someone to go to Hell ,,So that they will look forward to to the trip

Thanks for the ideas. The seat belt torx bolts "were" holding the base down by these thin metal straps. What a chore getting them out, even with a good squirt of WD-40. Tough going in the heat of the day.
After they were out, it was just a big lift upward to free up the top, which was just held by the seat frame on some brackets. I could then slip out the hardshelf.
What's with Chevrolet using that awful tar based shelf underlay? What messy stuff! The barrier between the seat back and the trunk is made of similar stuff. I'm thinking I will just tear it out and put some vinyl material in place of it.
Thanks again!
