37 Degree or 45 Degree Oh What to do!
I am getting ready to plumb my 32 for brakes and I have disc both frnt & rear. I have a lot of AN fittings, Stainless fittings and all the necessary hardware and tools. My Hydralic flareing tool really is a time saver. My question is how can you tell 45 Degree from 37 degree. Are all AN fittings 37 or 45. or are they both? I need a tool to show me the diferarnce, I only have equipment to do 45. Thanks guys in advance

AN is 37. degree .you may tell a 45. by a square or a protractor the low tech way for the flare would be a one of them stainless steel rules sizes 6 inch set it on the in side of the flare 2 45.=90 so it will hit on the ruler top and side or hold two of the flared fitting on the flares it will add to90. a squareIrish Diplomacy ..the ability to tell someone to go to Hell ,,So that they will look forward to to the trip

Here's a page from Pure Choice showing a set something like what you probably have. You might want to contact them direct and see if they have a supplemental kit for 37 degree flaring, you can't be the first that would like it. http://www.performanceplumbing.com/Tools.htmlYour Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

As everyone has already said, the AN flare is 37 degrees. Most folks dont realize that the 37 degree dimension is a nominal dimension on only one of the two mating parts.....the other mating part is made with a slightly different angle. When the two parts are assembled, the contact is actually a circular shaped line or ring. The fitting does NOT seal by the contact of the two surfaces....only by the line contact. By using the line contact, the contact pressure is relatively high, enough to deform the fitting material slightly. Brake flares do a similar thing....ever notice the line formed when the fitting is taken apart?
If you need 37 degree fittings, the AN stuff is interchangeable with JIC37 degree stuff...and the JIC fittings are available at the hydraulic store, the tractor supply, etc.

Most folks dont understand that the valve face is on 100% in contact with the seat!!
