I've been a fan of Meguiars since the mid seventies. Over the years, I have tried some other products, but keep going back to Meguiars.

Thumbs up wax on wax off

Thanks for the great info. I bought the clay bar/quick detailer kit and then got the Gold Class paste wax. Tomorrow is the car show here in my town and I want to get the 72 all detailed. It's supposed to rain tomorrow (go figure, it always rains in Ok. on Labor Day weekend), but I guess I can sit under the awning and watch the water bead off the fresh wax job! I'll be back after the show and give an update. Regards,

    Wyatt

I used a clay bar on my 57 Olds several years ago and it was amazing how slick the paint was afterwards. It was a lot of work but it was as smooth as my friend's car that he had paid to have buffed out. I used the Clay Magic package. Later I just bought a replacement bar and the dealer told me to use Meguiars Quik Detailer spray as it would be just as good as the Clay Magic stuff. I think Clay Magic sold out, probably to Meguiars. Takes a lot of rubbing but the finished product is worth it.

As for wax, I have been using a product called Satin Gloss for years. I really like it, but it is getting harder to find so I will probably switch to a Meguiars product.

I just spent a few days working on my Son-in-laws '53 Chebby. It had been pretty neglected, and even had some spots where someone had scratched it pretty bad with a rough rag or something. Lots of surface scratches. I started with the clay bar, then used the Porter-Cable with a light cutting pad and Meguiars #83 Cleaner/Polish. It did not get all the scratches out, but it made them a lot harder to see, especially out in the sun. Then I finished it off with the NXT Tech wax, also applied with the PC. Came out pretty nice if I say so myself.

Turtle wax has a new product called ICE . About 2 ounces will do a car, It is a liquid and you can wax the whole vehicle before going over it with a dry cloth. I recently used it on my 39 and my pickup truck. Works excellent

The car show was fun. It rained some that morning, but stopped before noon. Thanks to all offering guidance of the type of wax tp use.The Gold Class wax I used on the 72 Mercury has got to be some of the best I've used. The Cougar never looked better. Although I didn't win a trophy, we all had a blast! Is it me, or does Mercury always lose out to Ford (as if that makes any sense). I'm talking about Cougar vs Mustang? Regards,

    Wyatt

I have a black Trans Am and I have tried everything under the sun on it, and with out any hesitation I would have to say that a product called liquid glass is the very best, bar none. For some reason it is hard to find in my neck of the woods. It is kind of expensive at $18 a pop but it is well worth it. It goes on easy and comes of easy.

Always been a fan of products from The Wax Shop. Can be a bear to find so have used many others, but the ease of use & obvious results make me come back every time.
I dig ALL cars, old & new, whether they were hammered out of american iron, German steel, or Japanese tin cans. Being unable to appreciate them all is missing out on a world of great things.

    But thats just my opinion.

I used to be a loyal customer to Meguires until I learned of Zaino wax. I am by no means saying that Meguires doesn't make good products, BUT.....a good friend of mine told me about how Zaino makes the car look like it just came out of the showroom. I bought some (which by the way you can only get it from the internet or an authorized detailer) and it's very expensive. I believe I paid around $130 for the Ultimate protection kit. The good thing is, it lasts quite a while. It'll take the better part of an entire day to apply though. I currently have a 99' Camaro that had lots of swirl marks in the paint. After using the Zaino, you couldn't even see them. I normally wax the car twice a year and it's very durable to the elements. I tell everyone that's serious about keeping the paint protected and looking awesome about this wax and they're all extremely impressed. Definately take a look at it. I attatched the link if you're interested.

I use Satin Velvet on my 57 kustom, costs about $20/qt. Takes about 6 hours to do the entire car (painted surfaces only). Long lasting, deep shine. Last time I did it, I first used Clay Magic (cost about $25 and 8 hours of work) and finished off with Satin Velvet. That was December 2004. Use Mequiars Quik Detailer to keep it sharp. Probably needs another polishing this year. I love my cars, but got better things to do with $130.

Here is Meguiars along with a description, Mothers and others make them too. They remove all the surface contaminants from the paint, make it very smooth. First time I used it I was amazed.
