    Question Wax on Wax off

What type of car wax is the best and eaisest to use on a clear coat finish? Does the spray on/wipe off work? or should I use a liquid that dries to a paste? And if so, is elbow grease the best method of buffing or does an oribital buffer offer the same results without all of the work? Peace,

    Wyatt

I'm not a wax/detail kind of guy, but I think generally the Mequiers line has a good reputation with guys who do this stuff.

I use Meguiar's Gold Class paste wax or High Tech yellow paste wax or with an orbital buffer I got from Sears. A couple of times a year, I use a clay bar first to get some of the grit off the surface, followed by their Deep Crystal Polish, then use the paste wax. I do not use a cleaner wax.

Some of the folks on this boar won't use wax at all. They swear by polish alone. I don't go to that school, but I don't begrudge them their way of doing things. Whatever works.

Those clay bars are really good stuff, huh? I've seen guys use them when I worked at the body shop, and it's amazing what they remove.

The difference between the feel of the surface before and after you use a clay bar is simply amazing. You won't believe it until you try it.

I too mostly always use Meguiar's line but have been known to use Mother's clay bar and it does work. I couldn't find a Meguiar's clay bar locally so I got the Mother's and it worked good too. If you pay any attention at car shows, 99% of people are using Meguiar's. Is it because it really works good or is it because it's what everyone else is using? LOL!

I am lucky enough to work for Meguiars at car shows as a fly in/drive in part timer/
Great products and great people/ They care about their customers and their cars.
There are a few other companies that have good products but not many care about the customers like Meguiars does

Iceburgh....How come none of the locals like AutoZone, Advance, and Wal-mart don't carry the Meguiars clay bar?

They have a choice to do so. Problem is the Meguiars line is so big it takes up to much shelf space.
Around here they have it also look for the new Smooth serface kit that is starting to show up in store now.
It is 2 bars of clay, QD, a Microfiber and small bottle of wax. SRP is $17.00 and is a great deal.
Ask the manager to carry it and he can order

Roger Wilco. I will look for it and buy it when I find it, or will ask for it.

I'm with the rest of the gang on the Mequiar's. I don't use was, just the clean an polish stuff, and a bit of "final inspection" at the car shows....

I too use the Mequiar's line. Just recently tried the new "Tech Wax"... Amazing stuff. Easiest on/off I have ever seen. Great finishing product.

I finally broke down and bought a Porter-Cable DA polisher. I clay barred then used the Meguiars #80 and #83 to remove swirls and scratches, then applied two coats of their tech wax. I used the polisher to apply everything and wiped and buffed with a microfiber towel. My paint looked better than it has since I got the car, I was very pleased. It was a lot of work though, anyone who thinks a 53 Studebaker is a small car has never polished one!

Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

I have been tempted on more than one occassion to get one of those Porter- Cable polishers, Meguiar's sells one with their name on it but I think it's the same thing. There is just a bunch of good products out there, I like and use Meguiar's Gold Class but I also have used Mother's.
