IRS ideas
ok, i need to figure out a rearend to hold the power i plan on putting out with my big block chrysler. lets assume 900hp and 1,000ft lbs of torque (im aiming high, but id rather be safe than sorry) the car will hopefully be no more than 2800lbs (stock weight) and comes with IRS from the factory. it is an 87, rx7 turbo. the stock rearend is pretty strong, but with power levels high, they wont last long and the 4.10 gearing is too low for me.
i need something like 3.55 to 3.73 range, i know the cobra 8.8 has been tried, but im not sure if they completed it yet. and the c4 vette rearend has been done too. but are there any other options that can handle big power? ive thought of the viper rearend but those are pretty expensive and hard to find. what are you guys using? for the levels i want, is the only option solid rear or some sort of hybrid?

Thought about the English Jaguar or Diamler IRS rear ends they are practically self contained in thier own cradle and are strong.
There you are the image of a genuine Mk 1 Jaguars Bum, stud pattern is the same as Ford, so it should be the same as Chrysler.
Oh and the entire unit is upside down in this picLast edited by southerner; 10-01-2006 at 12:23 AM.

There's no IRS that will live long behind 900 horse. The 9" IRS that Heidt's and a couple other manufacturer's sell is probably the strongest... Built correctly the 8.8" will do ok, especially on the street where high horse usually just blows the tires off the car before it will hook hard enough to break many parts. If you do in fact build that much horsepower and have enough suspension and tire to hook it up, best stick with a solid axle 40 spline 9".Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

re
Maybe a Toyota supra rear end
I've heard tell of people making in the area of 1,000 hp with the turbo straight six. With all the import tuners taking interest I bet you could find a nicely wrecked example in the junkyards ripe for the picking.I’m waiting for the day they decide to stop denaturing ethanol at the pump. Can you imagine taking a hit off of a gas pump that is force-feeding you moonshine! One little pull off that & I’d be set for the night! Woohoo

thanks for all the input guys. its looking like a ford 9 inch and a 4link is the best way to go. cost wise and reliability wise.
