    Blower on a sbc 400

I have 1966 chevelle and a pro street jeep wrangler I got a few years ago, as of right now the chevelle has pretty stock 402 and the jeep has a small block 400 running around 450 hp. I have decided to put the 400 in the chevelle I do however want to put a blower on the 400. I don’t want to build anything to radical and I don’t plan on building a 1000hp motor but I don’t want to drive around with a worthless blower either. I have never built a blower motor before but I was told this 400 had a blower on it at one time. Does anyone have any suggestions or know how much I should expect to spend?

......it depends on what type of blower your running & the amount of boost... I just had a 413 small block re-built and was considering going with a blower. With a 6:71 or 8:71 w/ dual 750 blower carbs, the required linkage & an upgraded fuel system I was looking at spending around $4,500 to $5,000.... I mentioned 'the amount of boost' as being an exspence cuz the more the boost the more heavy duty your parts need to be.... Check out the Holley web site r/e the Weiand Blower information page.... hope this helps, Bill

    Figure about $3,500.00 starting out.

There are a ton of Superchargers out there,
    Roots, Screw, and Centrifical.
Each has it's pros and cons.
Start a search on Google and you will find a wealth of information.
In the meantime I'll try and find a list of sites I had stored around here somewhere, and will post them when I find them.

You will spend lots of money But okay fun over, you will probably get seriously addicted to blowers as well. As super roasta says, you just have to make up yor mind if you want blower discrete and under the hood, or loud and hanging in the wind through a hole in the hood. And get a whole crown of degenerate bench racers, pretty girls and the local cop hanging around your fenders. And thats before you start that thumper up !!!

Good article on the history of roots blowers Tech.

I especially loved the part about those hand cranked bomb shelter blowers, with the two different teams competing for customers. This was one tech article where I laughed fit to bust. I wish I could of been at that trade show to hear the comments.?????
