this tube is made of junk steel and is hard at times to weld but when i am lucky it looks like this i use 347 ss tig rod . when i weld the tubes up i use my mill clamping kit the blocks help get line up so i can weld it with out tring to hang on to it with out C clamps . i use small shims to to help. before i weld i make line up marks on the tubes were i want them to go with a fine tip marker and make O or X on the ends of the lines so i do not weld it on wrong way at this point it gets tack and if they fit up good they get weldedLast edited by pat mccarthy; 01-08-2007 at 11:28 PM.

Hey Pat, I see you got the pictures on. Great. The entire level of work on the car looks awesome.
Can I ask a couple of questions? First of all, do I understand that you begin on the back tubes first? Is there a reason why you pick one area to begin on?
Also, when working on the tubes, do you finish up one entire tube then move onto the next tube, or do you keep working down the line then going back to a tube and adding more to it.
Finally, you mention clamping blocks. Are you using them to just wedge the unwelded tubes and hold them for welding, or do you somehow clamp from them?
Great thread, and like I mentioned, I am getting close to building my headers for the T.

here is this side allmost done when all tubes look good i wire wheel them and look for any thing that i miss or need to work off some of the weld if it needs some sanding i try not to do any of this sanding on the tubes but some times it has to be done. i will fire up the mig for tacking up the tubes it is fast i like to use vise-grips to hold the tubes all group up were the collector will be. then i take them off and tig weld in side of the ports. the top of the flange will have a 3/4 mig weld on the out side of the tube i think this helps keep the tubes for moving and cracking in time after this is done i will weld the collector onLast edited by pat mccarthy; 01-08-2007 at 11:35 PM.

the back tubes will be the short tubes so i move them around to get them longer so all tubes will be close to the same size in length. i use the blocks for wedging .sometime i will weld up some stuff if i know that is the only place it can go. but i will tack weld some stuff up if i think it will be moved

So you start at the header plate, shape the rear tube, then move on to the others?
Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
