5.4 Triton
Hello, I am putting a 5.4 Ford Triton engine in my '56 F100 P/U. Have the engine mounted and P/S and A/C hooked up. Will get the radiator and fan set up in a couple days. The next hurdle is the wiring, anyone know what I should do for a harness? I have the computer (ECM) for the engine and most of the harness that was attached to it, plus I have a complete harness for the ECM to engine but it is for a van and is pretty short. Any help or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks Topless.Buy a Buick, they got plenty power!

Great choice of powerplant! Also try

The 4.6 is getting to be a more popular swap, but the 5.4 hasn't quite caught up yet. I personally prefer the 5.4 because of its larger displacement, but it is a bigger/tighter package too. If you can find a 4.6 harness that will work for you, it's not difficult to convert to a 5.4. Or, since you already have the harness, you can always make pigtails/extensions that will work on your 5.4 throttle body, sensors, etc. What year 5.4 are you using?
BTW we have been working on the "Mod Motor Conversions" part of our business and have a 5.4 DOHC in an old-school altered and a 4.6 SOHC in a chopped '51 Ford shoebox, both still in the project phase. We'll have motor mounts, mandrel-bent headers and exhaust kits available soon. Check out

5.4 Ford
Hi Guys, thanks for the responses.... The engine I am using is a 2000 from an E350 van. The transmission is a 5-speed from a Mustang. The engine fits in my P/U very nicely...I fabbed the mounts from plate and am using SBC mounts. There is room for the exhaust manifold and I got by with two "U" joints on the double "D" shaft to the power rack. Topless.Buy a Buick, they got plenty power!

Sounds great. Post some pics when you get a chance and if you ever cruise it up to Denver, look me up; I'd like to check it out.

I think a carb intake and non computer distributor are made for those motors now. Jeff

Yeah, the later mod motors are coil-on-plug w/ the computer doing the spark distribution action. You can convert them fairly easily to aftermarket crank-trigger ignition systems if you're looking to use non-OEM induction. Unfortunately there are currently no off-the-shelf carb manifolds for the SOHC motors. We're currently working on a u-fab-it-style log manifold for our mod motor installation kits, but I don't know of any other plans for aftermarket induction for the SOHCs.
