Loctites Extend Product
Has anyone used this stuff before? I bought a can at Lowes to put on my 66 F100 to help take care of a few rust issues until I can cut the rust out and replace it. I sanded it down, washed it and put this stuff on. I also used their product called Naval Jelly before hand that supposedly takes the rust off and it took some off but not all, it takes a while to work it in and I kind of got lazy and didn't use it anymore.
But what do you guys think of the Extend?
Thanks for any comments.www.streamlineautocare.com

Extend is another version of what some other companies have out there. They may vary in exact composition, but all of them stop the rust by converting it from iron oxide (rust) to zinc oxide (I think)
Another product that you could use and maybe save some money is OSPHO. It is available in hardware and paint stores at about $ 7.00 a quart, at least as I remember.
You brush it on and it turns the rust black, and you can either leave it alone or paint over it.

Ok cool deal Don! Mine isn't turning black, I don't know why but it isn't. There are a couple of places that it is and the rest is just a darker rust. I did exactly what the can says and sanded it down smooth where there is little rust. Either way it doesn't matter because the rusty spots I am going to cut out and put in patches but I just don't want it to spread anymore than it is since it will be after christmas before I even get started on the body work. I am wanting to do my front end and mechanical stuff first (which the new 351W has been in it, I just haven't finished up the wiring or figured my throttle cable problem out). I was just out looking at my 48 Coupe and seen that the rusted floors and all are not as bad as I thought and I can make them myself because the rusted out parts are just flat sheets of metal with VERY little bends. I will just need to buy floor supports. I will use this extend on the floors and see what happens.www.streamlineautocare.com

Where do you buy this stuff at? I might just go buy 115 dollars worth of POR 15 (1 gallon) and the marine clean and use it all on the floors and frames on my 66 and 48. I can trust POR 15 more than the other products but still not 100%. The only way I can trust something to not screw up 10 years down the road is if ALL of the rust is completely gone and primed and painted correctly. I don't know, it's just hard to trust something like this to work 10 years down the road.www.streamlineautocare.com

Most of the local stores sell Phix, not sure if it's available in your area or not. Big white bottle with a pump, might look for it. As far as 10 years down the road..... I've seldom kept anything for 10 years to find out. Everything I own is for sale!!!!! I use Por 15 sometimes, I prefer media blasting and the proper primers and paint..... No idea if any of this stuff will work 10 years, and it's a cinch I won't own any of the cars or trucks I've used it on for 10 years to give you a definite answer. To GUARANTEE anything to not get rusted in 10 years time, better store it in a vacuum container and never let it come in contact with the elements.....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

I am getting way lazy in me old age ( 36 ) and I am beginning to DETEST doing things twice. My first impresson is, if you are going to cut the stuff out that soon, why do anything to it? hell, to keep it till next year, even bottom-shelf primer would do the trick.
I think i'm getting cynical too....
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.

Dave I wish I had 50K to buy those things. I would love to have some kind of molds like that and build them. If I win the lottery then I will pay you 55K for them... Oh did you know, I don't play the lottery?www.streamlineautocare.com

Rust-stop, corro-seal, phix, extend, etc... They're all the same product marketed under different names.
Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
