I use the electric speedometers on most everything now. The instructions for programming them come with the speedo, or are available on the Autometer web site....or at least they used to be on there..... I do use the Autometer sender, I'm sure others will work but I've never taken the time to investigate it.

I got burned on this "programmable" bit. It may have been my own misconception of what "programmable" really means, but---I spoke to the people in Ontario, Canada who sell the Autometer speedometer, and asked this question: Here in Canada, we now use Kilometers per hour, not Miles per hour----Giant pain in the ass. If I buy a "programmable speedometer" and sending unit, can I program it to read in Kilometers per hour instead of Miles per hour. The Canadian rep phoned Autometer, and told me---"Oh Yeah, no problem---just drive 2 Kilometers and punch the "set-button" and the speedometer will read in Kilometers (which are about 5/8 of a mile) instead of Miles per hour.---This is not true!!!! The friggin thing will then read kilometers per hour on the odometer, but the sweep hand will still read miles per hour. Is this a major problem???---Well, you can convert in your head, and it works, but be driving in town and see a radar trap (too late) and then try and do quick math in your head while your deciding whether or not to have a heart attack!!!!---Arrrghhhh
