installing a bbc or sbc in my 67 go????

besides making the motor mounts, Will I run into and issues putting a chevy 454 or sbc 400 in my 67 gto ?? I konw I will have to change the fuel line placement & starter wiring harness . I have a rebuilt '71 ls5 454 and a '72 sbc 400 engine in my shop I can use. I am pulling the orginal number matching pontiac 400 motor and 400 trans to save and keeep from damaging them. I am thinking that either a bbc or smc with a 400 turbo trans should go in with little effort. but Am wanting to check with you guys first!

Well, there are a few other items; but, I'm sure you are already aware of them. Things like exhaust, wiring harness, and distributor (if you aren't talking about a complete carb to pan motor that you're dropping in, and instead are referring only to a long block.)

All that being said, I think that financially, you're making the right choice because of the simple fact that you can make H.P. much cheaper with Chevy stuff than you can with poncho stuff (a lot of Pontiac guys would scold me for saying that).

I went the Pontiac route with my Firebird, and it is a lesson that has cost me quite a bit more than I would have spent going the other way.

Anyway good luck with the GTO.

well i will add to this by saying this .try to stay with the same year chevelle like engine frame mounts. engine mounts. headers. oil pan .some of this stuff works up to 70+ but if you get a 350 or 454 out of a truck the pan will not work. or if you used a full size chevy car pan them pans will not fit the front cross member and you will need all the power brackets for the chevy and stay with one year pulleys with that year water pump and steering i have put over 12 bbc engines 3 tall decks big blocks 572+bbc in my goats both 66 and know a bit about this if it was mine it would be big block if that helps
