Maybe just go for the looks, and let him keep the 4 popper economy. You could go with the suspension pieces to lower the truck and still maintain good driveability.... Maybe trick out the interior with some gauges, good shifter, custom upholstery, heck maybe even a roll bar and some race seats....?????Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

I'm betting you could get a pro charger or a Paxton supercharger kit to fit the 2.2You don't know what you've got til it's gone

A turbo off a 2.3 Mustang four would wake that popper up!

That four is a real dog. You can go to roller rockers and a header. Also Sport Truck Specialties makes some speed parts for the 2.2. Lowering these trucks is real simple. My only complaints are the fuel economy on the hiway. I recently went to Atlanta (295 miles one way) and I used a tank of gas to get there. I think I should be able to go a little farther than that on 13 gallons of gas.
Here is my wifes truck. Lowered 4 inches front and back. The wheels are American Racing Salt Flats, 17x7 front and 17x9.5 rear. I bought it with the Caddy taillight already done.

That four is a dog, all right. The 2.5 is better, or a 2.8 V6.

I would definately go with the 2.5 iron duke. Maybe 2 of em. Bolted end to end. But then ya know, have to lengthen the frame, and this and that. But it would be worth it. When was the last time you saw a straight eight? Definately go with that. Plus those dukes, you can stroke em up from 151 to 200. so you'd have yourself a 400 inline 8 there. And I'm sure just about anyone could do that. I mean, what's bolting two engines together, lengthening a frame, lengthening the fenders, and lengthening the hood? Peice of cake...Last edited by destry; 11-29-2006 at 12:00 AM.

My son just yanked the 4 banger out of his S-10. It was more trouble than it was worth. He swapped the rears from the stock 3:72 to 3:48 hoping to improve his highway MPG's. He went from 60 MPH @ 3K RPM's to 70 MPH @ 2200 RPM's. But it was straining at take offs. He had more problems in the electrical areas of the fuel pump, TBI, and distributor. With everything connected to the computer he spent most of his time doing process of elimination to figure out simple problems. Right now he's cleaning up a carbed 283 SBC and a TH350 trans that will drop right in with special mounts he got from JTR. That will end his fuel pump, TBI, and computer problems. He swapped the points distributor for a one wire HEI. Sure, he won't get the fuel mileage the 4 banger got. He will get a lot more horsepower, and he won't be slumped over the fender every weekend. Just some info to keep in the back of your mind when the 4 banger craps out. FYI: I read somewhere on the net that the S-10 4 banger engines where originally designed to be used as irrigation pump motors.52 Ford F-1, 327 Chevy, S-10 frame
