    Roger,

The only one I've seen like it is from Rat's Glass for the Speedstar. I don't know if he sells the grille shell separately - or if it would work for that matter.

Henry/Jack, What was the result of the title date? You quoted the law as saying it would be titled as of the year of the replica but then mentioned that the person who attached to plate to the car said it would be titled as a 2007. That makes a large difference in the emissions requirements as well as Va tax. What was the resolution of that discrepancy?

The officer and the CSR at DMV were incorrect. The car is titled as a 1934 Ford Coupe. There is a notation under "OTHER PERTINENT DATA" that says "Replica 2007."

However, the registration only says "FORD 3W COUPE 1934" That's what inspection stations will see, and it says nothing about 2007. The bottom line is that the law as written applies to replicas. They are only subject to the emission and safety requirements for the year of the car. The local inspection station understood that, and there was no argument. I would advise you to have a copy of the law with you when you have it inspected. The only caveat is that all safety devices you install (even if not required) have to work.

I am not sure what the property tax situation will be. I haven't received a bill yet. You do have to submit invoices for the body, frame, engine and transmission. If they go from that, the taxes could be high. If they just look up a '34 Ford in their standard books, the taxes will be almost nil. I guess I'll find out when I get my bill.

    Jack,
For the front end how do you like the dropped axle ride? I like the look but also am reading lots about the benefit of the MII IFS, which P&J offer as an option. Did you consider IFS, or were you set on the tradition, and have you seen any shortcomings with the solid axle?

BTW, if you were still in SWOP I would bet that the JOCO DMV would be assessing PT on value vs the '34 book.

My A-bone with IFS and coil-over rear rode much smoother than this one, and the steering was more positive. However, the solid axle was in the plan I had in my head for several years before starting. I used it for the concept, not the ride.

I was in OPKS when the guy at the main site wrote the guidelines for street rods. Basically, if it's not a pre-49 modified original, it's not a street rod. I had a friend with a T-bucket titled as a '27 T in Missouri, and he couldn't title it as a Street Rod in Kansas. It would be a specially constructed vehicle.

Even though the guy basically "invented" the procedure, his word was gospel. Even after he retired, they still use his guidelines.

Geez, you guys still have personal property taxes???? How the heck can you afford to live in that part of the country? The flippin' government has to keep raising and inventing more dang taxes just so they can keep all the dead beats on the payroll, I guess....

Already went to visit them at the Olathe inspection station - mfr's certificate of origin for anything 'new' like a rolling chassis from P&J, body from N&N, etc. For anything from a salvage yard like engine and tranny they want a receipt that ties back to a salvage VIN, period, or a receipt from a rebuilder that eliminates questions of chop shop parts. Basically they want certs and receipts on every part of the vehicle, down to the bulbs in the lights. Puts a perspective on having more done in the 'package', or buying new from suppliers. No wonder these things rack up the $$$!!

Yep, that's what I remember. I've met the guy that set that up, and he was a total jerk. Their rule makes you wonder what someone would have to do to title and register a car like mine in Kansas. Not that I ever intend to move back there . . .
