350 engine
i just purchased a 350 enigne that has seen better days and my son and i plan on rebuilding it. it needs alot of attention, right now the only numbers i can find is HECHO EN MEXICO and the numbers 3970010 under it. do I need to pull the oil pan to find out if it is a 2bolt or 4? Still have alot of years to clean off and missing alot of parts. looking forward to spending some quality time with my son during this rebirth.

target master 350, think that's a 4 bolt. think there the same as today's goodwrench 350's which are 4 bolt mainYou don't know what you've got til it's gone

as for a tuner i would be wasting my time and money? the engine was a given so right now i'm not out a whole lot. It didn't come with many parts, a farmer had it, was basically stripped....

have the block hot tanked, and magnafluxed, if it's cracked, it's garbage. if you have the heads, throw them out, 1 of the big problems with the target masters were the heads were not torqued right, so they cracked/ warped in short order. the block could be useable, as will any of the internals that are good, rods, crank ect...You don't know what you've got til it's gone

Glad to see you and the Kid will be doing this together. You picked probably the best engine to do this to. Lots of parts available, cheap, in both OEM and aftermarket, new and used. I thiink a guy could walk into any good sized swap meet and walk out with a complete Chevy engine just buying one part at at time at various booths.
The Chevy guys will know more, but Vortec heads seem to be a good low cost way to more power, but I am not sure if they will work with your combo. I suspect they will, but I will leave that to the experts.
Post some pictures as you go along.

my book shows that # as, 1969-1980 350, 2 or 4 bolt. also and wouldnt this be a kicker. a 1969 302 4 bolt and a 1969 327 2 bolt. but with the mexico stamp probably a later 350.

Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
