    Exhaust Questions

I just replaced the mufflers on a 1979 chevy pickup with 2 super 40 Flowmasters and 2.5" pipe from the muffler to the tips. from the manifolds, through the cat converters and into the mufflers its only 2". the problem is it's not as loud as I anticipated and was wondering if the Catalyic Converters are holding it back??

You could forget the mufflers and just run pipes out the back off the converters. The converters are real good at muffling the exhaust all by themselves. I have done this on a number of vehicles and they sound pretty good. In fact, I just did this with my Astro Van last week. Cost me 40 bucks to have a pipe put in in place of the rotted muffler and it sounds real nice. It's still a V6 but at least now I can hear it running...
