what the the "QUIETIST" MUFFLER i CAN GET????
on previous projects I have had glasspacs
(witch I expected to me loud) flowmasters, sounded great, but resonated really bad in the car. is there any mufflers that can be recommended that sound good, but are quiet in the car (no resonating). it doesn't really bother me, I am about half deaf, but I will have my kids & wife riding in the car, I don't want it to be loud.
the car is a 39 chevy COUPE running a 454 bbc. DUAL 2 1/2" EXHUAST. THE FLOORS & TRUNK HAVE BEEN SPRAYED WITH LIZARD SKIN inside and out, padding & carpet. ANY HELP GUYS???????????

Personally I like the repop Hemi mufflers, flow well and nice noise level in the car. You still know you have a motor in it when you step on it.

Yeah, like the turbo mufflers too. My '27 has stainless specialities mufflers, and they make 3 different levels of quiet. I got the middle ones and all my buddies thought my rod was too quiet. I thought it was ok though.

I understand that flowmaster makes a muffler called the "hushpower". I have never heard one, but I am guessing that the name is pretty self-explanatory. Also, their website has noise ratings.

I am also looking for a quiet semi performance muffler. I am going to try a turbo muffler that has a large body. Dynomax makes one for motor homes/tow vehicles that is cheap. It has a 4"x10"x20" case. The original case was 14" long. I bought the quietest flowmasters(2 yrs ago) & they are too loud.Don Meyer, PhD-Mech Engr(48 GMC Trk/chopped/cab extended/caddy fins & a GM converted Rolls Royce Silver Shadow).

Muffler
Hello, I have Flowmaster "Hushflow" mufflers on my SBC equipped '48 Buick. Let me tell you they are not quiet but do have a very pleasent low rumble if you drive with a light foot...if you get into it the sound level really takes off. I have the heat risors plugged and that contributes to the sound and I will take the intake manifold off and unplug them when I do any more engine work on the car.. they were a lot quieter with the heat risors open. I like these mufflers because the case is stainless and they should last a good long time..Buy a Buick, they got plenty power!

I run the borla 16" round style race mufflers on my 37 chevy pickup ...
with a 496" motor and 3 1/2" exhaust ,, the idle is a deep rumble and driving at 65 gives a tolerable exhaust note" SEE YA at the FINISH LINE " ! ........ratso

I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
