Where can I get a high quality water/air filter?
This is for my air compressor. I have upgraded all my lines and connections to 3/8" ID and 1/2" fittings. I cannot find anything better than 1/4 filters at home depot and loews. The filters from Harbor freight with 1/2" inlet/outlet seem to flow too low. I figured some one with better knowledge could point me in the right direction. I am not looking for the cheapest filter and dont mind paying for something a little bigger to give more air flow. ThanksLast edited by BigTruckDriver; 04-09-2007 at 01:20 PM.

Yes I seen that one at Harbor freight . I took it apart to inspect it and found that there is a bolt blocking the passage where the elbow is connected to. The fitting is like 1/2" inch but inside where the bolt is you only have less than 1/8" passage on either side of the bolt. This did'nt look right to me ,dont know maybe I am missing something? My biggest concern is getting sufficient air flow to my plasma cutter.
Heres what I got Rating 3.2
SCFM @ 40 psi
10.2 @ 90 psi
135 psi max 60 gallon tank
Part number is VT631402AJ
Thanks for any help. I will be running shop tools and a Plasma cutter.Last edited by BigTruckDriver; 04-09-2007 at 01:14 PM.

it flows pretty well. the fitting the elbow connects to is 3/8", behind it there is the big retaining bolt that holds both caps on, but it is far enough back from the fitting, and the center of the bolt is polished to a mirror finish ( probably stainless too ). it flows good. tonight, I'll go out and dig out the instructions, see if it has CFM ratings, I think it does. your compressor ratings are backwards, you would have more CFM @ 40 PSI than @ 90 PSI.You don't know what you've got til it's gone

I use a dessicant filter that I bought at a military surplus auction, no idea who makes it...Works great. I think Sharp or DeVilbiss offers a good one. As for your plasma arc, the flow requirements for light duty hot rod type work are low enough that even a Harbor Freight cheapie should be adequate.... I would consider spending some $$$$ and getting a good one, you're going to need it eventually. Easy and cheap way to lessen the amount of water in your system is to put a 3' or 4' U shaped loop in the line with a drain valve at the bottom of the U....Last edited by Dave Severson; 04-09-2007 at 06:24 PM.

Yup, just a simple old water trap does a heck of a good job of limiting the moisture. That and draining the compressor every day will help ensure it and your air tools have a long life....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!
