    Stop leak for oil..??

I discovered the rear seal leaking on my 351C a few days ago. It had been leaking a bit since I bought the car a year ago, but really didn't know for sure where the leak was coming from. I'm guessing a labor intensive job to replace the seal since I'm not a mechanic (or if I was, allot of labor involved). Someone educate me on the stop leak stuff they have out there. The only thing I know is that you put off the inevitable, (sic) repair.

You might even make the inevitable repair necessary sooner. The stuff that I have seen is no more than thick oil. It won't stop the leak. If you can't fix it now, just make sure you keep the oil level checked. Oil is cheap, don't dump any magic potions in there.

    65ny,
stop leak = thick oil. hmm.. what about using a heavier weight oil? After all, temps are getting warmer this time of year here in Okla.

If it gets thick enough not to leak....it isn't going to circulate the way it is intended.
kinda chilly and rainy here today.

Don't put no heavy oil or other crap in your motor. Park it over a pan and keep up with it (the leak) 'till you can't take it no more and you fix it ..........

Beware, if you ignore it (the leak) she will seize .............

yup, only a rope seal will sometimes stop leaking on it's own, my '51 chevy did that, rear main rope seal used to leak when I first got it, but after it got wet with oil, it stopped leaking. some stop leaks will clog up oil passages, as they actully turn into a sludge purposly. don't put brake fluid in the oil ither, it does more harm to good seals, than it does good to the leaky seal
You don't know what you've got til it's gone
