If you've got a Ford engine and trans, Use a Ford Explorer rear. The standard S-10 rear in a 4 banger is 3:73. It's ok on take off, but poor highway speeds unless you've got an overdrive trans. I've got a 52 Ford on an S-10 frame with 3:42 rears. Not so good for impressing the ladies on take off, but much better speeds and MPG on the highway.

But! they don't have the the drive shaft on center of the rear end! Astro vans also have 8.8 with 5 lug also, but also not on center.

Rangers and astro vans had 5 lug, and Mustang and T-bird had 4 lug.... dumb!
One axle on the van & one on the Ranger is the same axle as Mustangs both axles, except 5 lug. Lincon will also work, but will make it 3/4" wider per side.
