Depends on how hard you are going to be pounding on it. If it's a posi and you're running slicks and good traction, not long. For street use and an open differential, probably work ok.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

I have an S10 rearend under the roadster pickup---works great. Granted, the abuse it takes from my weary old 305 doesn't really compare to a 5 litre, but I know in my rpu that it will never hook up enough to hurt it amyways.Old guy hot rodder

We twisted the pinion off with a 350 in an S10. Not a really tough rear end.

gonna be a street rod. no burn outs. gonna turn some big wheels be bagged and such i can get one for free and its the right width. the one i pulled from my parts lincoln is way to wide and i would have to get it shortened. just trying to get some opinons before i get it.

Under those circumstances and usage, you should have no problem. Lots of S10's running around with V8 swaps. I am using one in my T and in my '39, one has a 350 Chevy, the other a 406 Olds, and know I can't do smokey burnouts all the time, but that is not what I plan on doing anyway.
S10's are really a nice fit for streetrods, plentiful, and consequently pretty cheap.

At 50 here it will be really hard for me not to do some burn outs . Have you thought about a 8.8 nice up grade and some narrow ones in the early 90 rangers. U pull it yards around here sell whole rear ends for $50 .

You could use a '87-'93 Mustang 8.8 and if you get it out of a GT Mustang you get a locker. All '87-'93 Mustangs came with 4 lug, If you use 2 driver side axles from a Ranger, or use Astro van's 2 pass side axles you will get 5lug. Around here axles go for about $25.00, and rear ends are about $25.00- $75.00.
Bolt on Lincoln rear disk mounting plates reverse side and backwards and rotors, then you can use Mark III caliptors and have disk also.
Just another idea.

i`m a go to the bone yard tomorrow and look for the mustang rear if no luck than s10 it is. although a locker would be nice, but i`m not the speed racer type. slow and low so the ladys get a good look

I am building a S10 and the guys on the S10 sites say that 300 HP with hard launching will break them. Its the hard launches (usually slicks) when they break.
Some of the Exployers and others have 8.8" rears. They stick out about 3" on each side but maybe backset wheels would help here. The only change is the pinion yoke is different and napa has the right one to fit it together.
But there are some 10 sec. S10's with the original 7.5" rears but should be 'beefed up' if abused."On a r-e-e-e-e-al,,,,qu-i-i-i-i-i-et night,,,,,,,,(whisper),,,,,,,, you can hear a Ford rust!!!"

Most 4X4 Ford rangers & Bronco II's have 8.8 And some have posi's in them with lower gear ratio's than the Mustangs.....With 5 on 4 1/2 lug pattern. They also were leaf spring mounted, they are easier to "clean-up" to use for 4-link.
The down side is the flange mounted rear yoke on the driveshaft so snag the drive shaft also.

One axle on the van & one on the Ranger is the same axle as Mustangs both axles, except 5 lug. Lincon will also work, but will make it 3/4" wider per side.

Nice thing about the 8.8 is the wide range of after-market for them. I put a 8.8 in a Jeep that came out of a 99 Explorer. I put a 4.56 set of Yukon gears and a Detroit locker in it. That was a beast of a rear end. I beat the heck out of it and it had the disk brakes.

If you've got a Ford engine and trans, Use a Ford Explorer rear. The standard S-10 rear in a 4 banger is 3:73. It's ok on take off, but poor highway speeds unless you've got an overdrive trans. I've got a 52 Ford on an S-10 frame with 3:42 rears. Not so good for impressing the ladies on take off, but much better speeds and MPG on the highway.52 Ford F-1, 327 Chevy, S-10 frame
