actually wouldn't count on "dye" being anything more than "paint", which will wear off and require touchup.

I own and operate a small upholstery shop and I also do small interior repairs in the local car lots. I dye leather and vinyl all the time. I use a water base dye system from Royal Automotive Products out of Florida (www.royalauto101.com) I'm not sure if they sell to non dealers but you could check them out. If not go talk to your local used car dealers and ask them who does their small interior repairs. Most of them have someone who comes around every couple of weeks and they can usually match about any color you want although the Pearl colors may be hard to match.

I used SEM vinyl dye/paint for my dash and it looks original. Don't forget to use their plastic prep prior to application.

Sems is good , you do need a good prep also. you can get a vinyl dye mixed in an aerosol can from your napa store, again you'll need prep. and yeah vinyl dye doesn't last long . you'll be carrying your can around and touching it up quite often.
