    Quick Change help

I went to my local hardware store today, it's more than a hardware store they have everything, it's were I buy my fasteners. I go up to the counter and see my old friend Dave, we have been friends for 26 years. He says to me,"what do you want?" He's always grouchy, I say,"I need some O ring material". He says "what for?" I say "for the rear cover on my quick change". This is where it gets good ! He says "you know I got one of those old magnesium Halibrand quick change V8 rear ends still in the box" I say "really?" so you can figure out the rest of this story. I go over to his shop today and sure enough there it is. I bought it, but I"m not sure what I have.
The numbers on the side of it are 299-1204 Halibrand A Product of National Mfg. Co. Inc. 293-1204.
Can anyone tell me anything about this? Anything at all I would greatly appreciate. What I would really be interested in is what year it was made.
