    VDO, voltmeter gauge problem

I have a set of VDO, (Royale) gauges installed in my Abone. Recently my voltage gauge went haywire. When I turn on the ignition, the needle goes clockwise and buries itself off the scale. When I tap the gauge, it will work normally for a while then the same thing happens. I had a friend who builds street rods and is an expert electrical guy in the Rochester area. He took a look at it and said everything looks to be correct. He can't explain it and suggested that I replace the gauge.

Has anyone else experienced this type of problem? If so, what did you do to correct it? Is the gauge repairable?

    Thank You in advance.

Just a question, is it on a figerglass bodied car? Sounds like something is trying to "find ground" and your volt meter is the shortest path. Just a guess.

Nope, its all steel. You won't believe it but I gave it a good wack with a hammer handle and it's been working fine for 2 days. Must be something in the gauge that's goin'!

LOL, So it needed the "HAMMER HANDLE" adjustment.

Nah, I refer to that as a "fine adjustment"! (LOL)
