request for pics of your boxed frame
all right guys, soon it will be time to take the truck to my friends and put it on the lift, start installing power steering and power brakes. Talked to my uncle and he said we should box it by welding an inch, skipping two or three then welding another inch. but I don't think that is how it is supposed to be done.
I was thinking we should step box it (skip grinding and weakening the welds any). I have the 10ga. already. I would just like some pics of what you guys have ended up with, how you butted the ends up together etc.
And what are the clips called that are used to attach the lines to the frame? I know I read it somewhere around here but cannot remember.

When I boxed the model A frame under my '27 , I did it full length, and clamped it in a jig to keep the heat from warping it. I kept skipping around with the welds until the entire length was filled with weld, then ground it smooth.
Those clips are called line clamps or adel clips. I am going to order some this week from Inline Tubes, they have them in stainless and all sizes.

so you do eventually weld up full seam, not just every few inches. anybody done the stepped box?
I'm just recommending to him that we box back just past the transmission mounting point, just to compensate for the torque from the 429.

It looks like that pretty frame Godspeed posted is step boxed. I understand that term to mean the 4th wall is inset slightly. A nice way to do it as it keeps the cables and lines inside and hidden.
For what you are doing some long spot welds would do just fine, if spaced a few inches apart. The only reason I welded it fully was for cosmetics and to keep water from having a place to enter.

mine isnt stepped it is box all the way out , and it is welded all the way round if that is what you asked. make sure if you box it use good metal since all your mounting points are going to be to the boxed portion of your chassisnothin like hearing those lake pipes roar!!!!

Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
