With my "new" truck, I'm still not sure what to cart around with me as there are more and more metric fasteners . When I take an extended trip or take the camper out, I have a full tool box - and I'm always missing the tool that I need. Right now, a few screwdrivers, a Crescent wrench, a pair of pliers, some electrical tape, a flashlight is about all that is in there.
When I had my '79 F350/460, I always carried a full toolbox - while it never ever broke down, I always had that fear that I might have to do a 'ring and valve' job alongside the road after it passed 135K and 17 years oldDave

a AAA card...

Me too! Mostly I just carry my AAA Plus card with 100 miles of free towing. If it is going to be a long distance trip and I will be towing the Mullins, I usually just throw in my tool box complete with two torque ratchets and whole bunch of other needless items. Last time I did that the only thing I used was a spark plug socket and ratchet and a metal nail file. Probably overkill to carry as much as I sometimes do.
And yes I always pack a first aid kit in the car no matter where it goes.Bob

I have rigged a busted U-joint with a coat hanger before. It got me home anyway.
Bailing wire is good!

I'm a pessimistic old toot.
So ........ I figure anything in the way of tools I haul around with me is bound to be stolen eventually. Therefore, the old plastic toolbox in the trunk of whichever of my treasures(?) I happen to be driving contains:
_Cheap Far-East bargain-counter crap sockets and wrenches.
_Worn-out screwdrivers, one of which is hefty enough for use as a crowbar.
_Snuff cans containing a variety of used nuts and washers.
_An opener for adult beverages (you don't need them anymore but it doesn't seem right not having one in there).
_A corroded old Swiss Army Knife (A good man can major every component of a Boeing 747 with one of those things).
_A little can of "Liquid Wrench" (although the dam stuff doesn't work).
_A very old can of starter fluid that probably no longer has any pressure in it.
_A big old Crescent wrench (13 inch is about right) of sufficient size and length to be used for a hammer if the need presents itself.
And 3M Electrical tape for temporarily fixing radiator hose ruptures.
But the rest of the stuff is mostly junk.

well, I have a mechanics tool set in the falcon, staney brand. I was at Syracuse Nats and there was a vendor for hose and line repair stuff, like rubber tape, dosn't stick to anything accept itself and in 90 seconds turns to hard rubber, can't remember the name, but I wish I had got some, cause a trans line sprung a slight leak, and type F fluid isn't as cheap as dexron/mecron. it would be a great thing to have a roll each in both my cars. You don't know what you've got til it's gone

Bigtracks...funny post. I know all about those depressurized cans. And thanks for reminding me about the "adult beverage opener".
My neighbor gave me a bucket of this great hand cleaner called "scrubs in a bucket"....sort of like industrial grade baby wipes. they work great!! I must live under a rock because Ive never seen them before (and they smell nice too ) I put it straight into the trunk today.

Also look for carrying odd size sockets particular to your ride, I have been a Jeep fan for years and the one size they use quite often is 15mm reg/ deep. W/o that you cannot do most things on them. Mercedes is 11/13 mm for many things .

Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
