    I've never tried it. I put a hose clamp around it and use a cut-off wheel. Then I grind down any stray strands sticking out with the cut-off wheel, or touch it to my bench grinder. The hose clamp keeps it from fraying long enough for you to insert it into the ferrule.

    I never had any luck with the tape, but that's just me.

    You're supposed to tighten the ferrule until there is a small gap between it and the nut. I don't remember the size of the gap.

    Finally, use good hose - Earls or Aeroquip. Summit hose was a PITA.
