Engine block/Trans bolts
Hi guys,
I have a Chevy 350 small block bolting to a Th-350 trans. Can someone please tell me the bolt length I need for the engine to trans. connection at the bell housing to eng. block? They are early '80's models if that helps.
As far as I know they are 3/8's, I'm just not sure how long, and neither was the owner at the local speed shop. Any help is much appreciated.

3/8" X 1 1/2" should work just fine. I use a flat washer between the bellhousing and lock washer, too. Hate galling up the aluminum... Don't overtorque them either. Every bolt on an engine has a torque value, might want to have a manual or print out of torque specs for a sbc when you put things together......Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

I also would suggest not just using hardware store grade bolts, like grade two or something. It might be overkill, but I use grade eight. (will have 5 little lines on the head surface) Our local Ace Hardware carries a terrific selection of grade eight stuff, and I keep cleaning them out......use them everywhere.
Not sure if grade five would work for a tranny to engine, but for the slight difference in price I'd go heavier.

The guy at the speed shop said they did not need to be grade 8, I thought they might be so I asked him. But I will take your advice Don, it's easier than breaking them. So 3/8" x 1 1/2" grade 8- Thank you guys very much.
PS-The engine is still bolted to the pallet it came on and I don't own a hoist. I can't get to the bolts holes on the back of it. When I rent a hoist I'd like to have everything I need so I can get the eng/trans in the car as fast as possible. Haynes manual doesn't give bolts sizes as far as I can tell, but it does have torque amounts.
Thanks again,
Mike
