Fuel Fill through taillight?
I thought I saw on tv the other day a custom setup to fill the gas through the taillight. Now that I think about it I didn't get a good look an am not even sure I saw correctly. Have any of you heard of people doing that? how safe could that possible be with electricity so close to the neck where there would be vapors?
Just thinking today about ways people hide their fuel fill doors. (non-issue for me since we're putting a tank in the bed).

What kind of car (or truck) was it?
One of the tri-5's (car) had the filler neck under the driver side tail light. I believe it was '56 chevy bel air(?)....one of the older fogey's will know for sure.
I agree though...seems like there is an element of danger in a design like that.

Not happy about the fogey bit, but it was the 1956 Chevy that filled behind the left taillight. There were some others, but I disremember them right now.
The memory is the second thing to go, and I forget the first thing.

Yup, my first car was a '56. I don't think it ever blew up. I'd remember somethin' like that."PLAN" your life like you will live to 120.

I had a 56 Ford with a fuel fill behind the flip down license plate.

As for the "danger" idea, the tail light unit performs like any other access "door", so in that way it is no more inherently dangerous.
The '57 Chev was another variation, it's access door was hidden within the trim work that wrapped around the tail fin, just above it's tail light, which put it in approximately the same area as the '56.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon
It's much easier to promise someone a "free" ride on the wagon than to urge them to pull it.
