Gas tank fill tube out back behind license plate?
My 51 Chevy 3/4 ton needs a gas tank. My plan is to keep the tank behind the seat and add a second tank at the back between the rails. Were most guys route the filler pipe either out the side making a hole in the fender or up through the bed, I would like to route it out the back using the license plate as a cover like the cars of the late 5os and 6os. Has anyone done this to a pickup before? If so any advice????1951 Chevy 3600 Long Box

Tell if I am wrong but isn't that where the spare is located?
It was on my 63.
Any late 60s sedan bumper of Chevy/GM seemed to have them behind the license plate.Scott

If the two tanks are interconnected and you don't have to switch from one tank to the other to use the fuel, you could fill both tanks using the existing filler tube since it is at the highest point. This is also providing that the line between the two tanks is of adequate size to permit fueling in less than a day.

The spare is on the side behind the driver. What I need to know is when the fuel inlet exits will it be enough above the tank to keep the fuel from pouring back out. At this time I haven't bought the bed and I thought if someone had done this sort of alteration before they could save me from hitting a "pothole" down the road.1951 Chevy 3600 Long Box

Only thing I see would be that in order to have the filler behind the plate, the tank itself would have to be quite low..... If there's not enough drop in the fill line, could end up with slosh out the filler on acceleration......Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!
