dodge 360 air compresser
so we had to rent an additional air compresser on our jobsite this week and I of course get to be in charge of its maintenance. This thing is a dodge 5.7 magnum block complete with a mock bell housing. The manifold is fuel injected one injector per cylinder. The right bank injectors have no power to them so it runs entirely off the left side and compresses with the right. there is no fuel mixed in with the intake charge due to the powerless injectors. There is a switched air cylinder that kicks the throttle back to idle when the max psi is reached. The exhaust is so quiet on this thing that I cannot tell how it is running using half its cylinders! Just something cool that I thought I would share. I remember reading earlier this week about I think a flathead? powered compresser from way back in somebody's shop. I definitely have my gears a turning on this one. I think I may have found my next project.

That idea is nothing new, Schram made tractors where half the cylinders made power, the other half compressed air. The oldest I have seen was made in the 40's ,no doubt there are plenty others around even older. I worked as a mechanic for DOT up until I retired last year ,and I never saw any 351 ford powered compressors in any configuration, and all that I saw come in the door since 1980 were diesels. Hank
I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
