Fuel line/ Trans fluid
I need to shorten the metal trans cooler lines in my car. The original Pontiac engine sat farther back in the car than the small block Chevy I put in. Can I use fuel line to splice them back together after I shorten them? I'm not sure if fuel line will stand up to transmission fluid over time? Info much appreciated,
Mike

They sell tranny cooler line hose. It is made to withstand heat better than fuel line. NAPA and others carry it. If you cut the ends of your existing tubing, use a flaring tool to put a lip on the tubing and put your clamps (2) behind that lip so the hose won't blow off as easily.

I'm glad I asked. Thanks a ton, you just saved me a headache.

Uh, ask me how I know? I used fuel line one time and it blew out after a little while. Then I found out they actually sell heat resistant hose made for that purpose. I also learned the lip trick the hard way. Hose kept sliding off of the steel line. But if you put a little lip on it the hose bites in with the clamps behind it.
Good luck,

I've gotten away with fuel line on the trans lines plenty. Use two hose clamps and it will stay put. Has to be replaced every couple of years though.
However: the afore mentioned advice is better than mine. Do like Don said..
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.

Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
