I'm not sure about the width, but the Monte is a coil spring car and the 50 has leaf springs. Not a problem if you want to or have the equipment to change all the mountings.Lot of work to go thru when a camaro/firebird or nova of the 70- 80's era is a bolt in....

I used a 69 Mustang Ford 9 inch in my '50 Chev. Minimum work, just locate and weld on spring perch, etc.
I retro fitted four whell disc brakes with a power booster as well.

I would go with a Camaro/Firebird 1973 to 1980 10 bolt 8.5 . The Z28s had 342 Posi with the auto 373 with the 4 speed . The Firebird T/As had 323 Posi and some 1979/1980s had rear disc brakes with a 308 posi . A friend had a Firebird rear end in his 50 Chevy pick up . And they are not to hard to find . Also not to costly . The 1979 Monte rear end is the weak 7.5 ring gear with a 256/279 gear .
I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
