Removing Bearing races
Okay moving along on my build today I got the engine and tranny mounted. The front axle and 4 bars mounted and tacked into place, and put my spindles on with your help. Good day in the garage!!
I wanted to put my rotors, brakes and wheels on the front but I ran into another problem. My kit from Speedway says that you have to remove the races and put in the new ones they supply (PIA, you'd think this would be done as part of the kit!! ). So I got three different races for each outer??? I think I figured out which ones to use, but what's a good way to get the old ones out. I figured I'd freeze the new ones and they should slide in but I'm stuck on the old ones. Any ideas???
Thanks,
Sean.

Tap them out from the backside with a flat punch ,then use the old ones to install the new ones.....you may have to do more than just tap...
You want to work it all the way around evenly and avoid just tryin to hit on one spot ,hit turn/hit turn/etc...Its gunna take longer than u thought and its gunna cost more too(plan ahead!)

Use a brass punch if your scared . Just hit it side to side . Then install the new one the same way . When the race is in all the way . The sound of the strick to the punch will change .

Well that was surprisingly easy, a bit of force but they came out straight. Just got the new ones in the freezer for a bit, this works on motorcycle headsets all the time. I can't figure out what I'm supposed to do with all these other races??? I guess just for different spindles, the one set doesn't even fit in the front or back??
Thanks,
Sean.

The other races are for a different set up . Pack the bearings good and don't over tighten them .

Not throw stones here, but I have changed a lot of races and seals over over the years with punches and drifts (and still do on occasion).
Even if yo'ure just doing the occasional bearing repack (which is when you normally find bad bearings) why not spring for the correct tools.

It really does make life easier.I've NEVER seen a car come from the factory that couldn't be improved.....
Thank you Roger. .
