    I know what I'm missing.........MORE CLUTTER!!!

I just made a bunch of cuts and then bent them over something, I think the small loops were every 1/2" and the big one was every inch. I can check tomorrow. The big one isn't really round, it follows the shape of the tranny but it'll be hidden so no one will ever know.

Nope, you aren't heading in the wrong direction at all.........looks good. You made a smart decision having a pro do certain welds. I'm like you, I know my limitations and have no problem letting someone who knows how to do that weld something for me.

Glad to see you've made so much progress too, bet you are getting excited since it is starting to look like a car.

Yea I want to get part of the floor in so I can take the body off and get the sheetmetal done. I was trying to decide how to make a roof and I found an old Vespa front fender from 1963 that matches the rear corners perfect. Gonna order a new one and cut it in half!!!

I got all my engine parts now so I can't wait to get at that also.

Looks like some good work to me, I especially like the way you reinforce the roof opening!

Got a little more done today. I got the body mounts bolted on, 6 all together, I figure that should be enough (4) of them are 5/8" bolts and (2) 3/8" at the rear. I added in another frame cross brace and then mounted a couple triangulated braces just behind the tranny, hopefully that will be stiff enough.
Then I made a couple of seats that I'm gonna try to convince a friend to cover like my chopper seat he did for me. Put in two rails and just screwed them in with self drives for now. I think I might want to mount them on sliders but I have to see if I can find some.
Got going on the floor and the start of the driveshaft tunnel, found that very time consuming and I want to try to get my Tig welder going for the rest of it. I want to get some practice in before I go and try to make a fuel tank.
As well I got my steering column mounted.

Now some questions. I have to mount my gas pedal and a park brake some where, is there anything else you guys can think of that I might be missing before I start to fill in the floor. Also when you mount the floor do you weld the whole thing in or do you bolt it down. I'll have to make an access door for my master cylinder and a battery box I'm thinking behind the passenger seat. Any help appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Sean

Started my gas tank today, the metal brake I bought was a P.O.S. so I got a little creative with a big piece of angle iron, some flat bar and a big hammer!! I bent the center main section out of one big piece to cut down on welding and then added one of the end caps. I got it tacked together with the Mig but I want to practice with my Tig and then seal it all up. I figure I'll cut out the holes for the filler neck and sending unit then clean it out really good before I cap the other end. I'll probably seal it with the gas tank sealer from Caswell Plating, it's worked well for me in the past on chopper tanks. Not as nice as 41 Willy's, this is the amature build!!

I was looking at my doors today and found out some bad news. The passenger door I took off needs some repair but is okay, the problem is the drivers side door doesn't match, it's really close but a bit different. It doesn't have the ridge on the top like my other door and the latch is smaller. The real crappy part is it hasn't got any rust holes, it's in pretty good shape. Any ideas where this is from and where to get a drivers side door from?? The first two are the proper door and the other three are the mystery door. Imight be able to make a lip on the top but I have to see if it fits and I hate to chop it if I can't use it.
Also can you buy new latches and locking door handles or do I have to go to bear claws now???

Finished welding up my fuel tank yesterday, first project that I've used my Tig welder on so I'm pretty happy it turned out OK. I had originally run out of Argon for it and thought I'd just finish it up with the mig but I ended up with leaks on the mig side. So instead of patching leaks I just cut off that side and made a new panel that fit a lot better as well. I really like how you can just go back and redo a section with the Tig without building up more bead, still lots of practice needed!!!

Got my tank mounts figured out today. I needed a brace to keep it from moving any closer to the diff. if I hit any bumps. It ended up close so I guess I'm gonna have to cut a section out of the tank to give it about another 2" around the pumpkin, that'll be another day. I didn't want to risk any leaks but I don't have much choice.
For the mount I got a piece of 1/4" plate and welded two 1x1 tubes down from it following the shape of the tank, from there I have two straps that are bolted on to the 1x1. This all had to be removable so I can get the body off. I might add some support to the tubes to keep them from flexing towards the axle. Those pieces of strap on top will be cut off but they make good handles for now.
Also got my gas cap mounted, I know a lot of people don't like these ones but I do, I think it looks cool and it goes through the seam from the chop so that means lees filler.
Made a bracket for my gas pedal also and mounted that, didn't want to start any big projects cause I leave for holidays on Thursday.

Been getting a little more progress lately, see what you guys think.

I got my steering completed finally, just don't want to put on my new Grant wooden steering wheel yet cause I'll probably wreck it. I swapped out my th400 for a th350 I found for $100 with only about 40k on it .I didn't like my Lokar shifter so I got a new B&M that seems to be a lot better.

My new headers came in the mail the other day so I had to try them out. I got the short turnouts and baffles that just fit in there, still need to weld the tips.

Also decided it was time to put a floor in, I just have to make a little door for the master cylinder and the transmission tunnel by the shifter. I think I'll use dzus fasteners for both these.

I was going to start on my doors soon and I was just wondering before I weld anything how do the windows go in, do you have to remove the panels??

I think next I'll do my front shock mounts and Radiator then I'll remove the body and start patching .

Here's some interior pics. I got a bit of warping I gotta figure out if I can fix. Got too anxious I guess. I made a little bucket for my heel, sure added a lot of extra space. My welding seems to be getting worse by the day, I think I have to get away from the sheetmetal for a while.

What do you guys think about this grill shell. I'm kinda undecided if I should make my own or try this.

I like it. Sort of like a tractor grille but different. Your car is coming along great.

It's off a Fordson Tractor, kinda unique I think. It's not like I'm following any sort of plan .

Just finished up my grill, decide to add some trim to make it look finished. I made the mounts so it has some urathane bushings off my old skateboard in between the rad and the mount tabs, should give it some flex and they're 1/2 inch, perfect .

I think I gotta check to make sure my engine mounts are straight, it looks crooked in the pic's. They're the urathane ones with the oval holes in them.
