Just a follow up here... I took the old tank down to the local mechanic. Found a 5-inch split weld so welded that up (pretty ugly bead, by the way) and added a nipple for a vent. After $200 for what appeared to be marginal work I'm beginning to think it's time to get my own welder

well it is hard some times to weld on them tanks when your mind keeps yelling BOOM makes me jumpy i just did to custom bike tanks with a lot more welding then that you had done i need to up my ratesIrish Diplomacy ..the ability to tell someone to go to Hell ,,So that they will look forward to to the trip

I've used this stuff on chopper tanks, works great and cheap.

Blast from the past... A season later I redid the whole fuel system with 10 gal aluminum cell -8 plumbing with bypass regulator with return to tank for constant flow. No more vapor lock. Took me a couple months to get the carb straightened out for reliable fuel delivery. Dropped jets 9 sizes... a lot of work and $$$ but glad I switched.

Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
