    72 mark IV steering column

i think i need to replace my steering column and the guys at the local junk yard said only a 72 lincoln or 72 t-birb will fit. does anybody know if there are other columns that will fit this car? the aluminum piece that the shifter goes into is broke(i can post a pic if needed) and im not sure if that can be replaced or if the whole column needs to be replaced. thanks guys.

Post a picture so everyone can see what you're talking about. I've got an idea and a picture would help.

I'd venture to say that the bone yard people are right, but that doesn't mean that parts from practically any Ford column from that year and maybe others won't fit.
I had a '72 F100 that someone had hacked up the shift collar (Automatic) and moved the shifter to the floor. I took the collar from a '66 Mustang and adapted it to the '72 and it looked factory. I think you could do the same with a tilt column.
