Time to paint "The Roadster"
I've been road testing my "Bare Steel" 32 High Boy for the last 8,000 miles and it's finally time to paint it. I'm tired of people asking "what color is that", or "how did you get the paint to look that way?" I always answer, easy it's just RUST!
The car will be taken completely apart down to the frame. I've got to media blast all the surfaces, prime, and prep for paint. I've "got a deal" on someone (a paint industry instructor) that's offered to supply the top coat materials, and shoot it for me. But, I know the end results will rest on my shoulders to bring him a well prepped vehicle to shoot. The final color will be a 40 Ford dark "solid maroon" so it will need to be straight. I want to end up with a nice, straight, DRIVER paint job. I also want a paint that "is fixable" because this car will see many miles, and not in a trailer.
I plan to start with a couple of HD engine stands from Harbor Freight and build a rotisory to support the body and allow work on the bottom. All body gap fitting will be done "on the car's frame". I've got to paint the following items roadster body, deck lid, doors, dash, 3-piece hood, grill shell, rear axle housing, engine, and transmission all the same color at the same time. There's surely got to be a right and wrong way to go about this project. Not sure how to hold and transport all this stuff without paint damage? Any advice from others that have been through this before would be appreciated.
Thanks, John Palmer

John,
I will be happy to help with anything. Do you have a good media blaster? I have a name if you need it. Are you going to powder coat anything?

As far as Powder Coating that's a "bad subject" right now. I have three Rochester 2GC carbs being redone currently because of blistering, oh well! Yes, I will holler for your help and suggestions.
Thanks John
I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
