    Chevy V8s into German Cars

    Greetings everyone...

Anyone have any thoughts, info or links on putting a Chevy 350 into a 500SL Mercedes Benz? Renegade Hybrids makes Conversion Kits for Porsche 914s & 911/912s & 928s. Using one of their kits, I dropped a "built" 350 into a '70 914 and it was an instant Road Rocket!

Now, I've just picked up a gorgeous '91 500SL, (2-door, two seater roadster) but it has high mileage and even in its current condition, it's a blast to drive. Sooo, I'd love to give it a (Hi-Perf) new lease on life with a Chevy crate motor and either a close-ratio 4-spd or a Turbo 400 tranny. Another car I've been looking at as a possible project car is a BMW 840/850 series.

Both the Mercedes & BMW are incredible... gorgeous styling, comfort, luxury and incredible handling... BUT the cost of parts for even minor repairs is outrageous, especially for the BMW V12 850.

Any thoughts, suggestions or web links would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Welcome to CHR

Just thinking, maybe buy a late model Camaro see if the floor would work use the firewall connect the sub frames. It would be a lot of work but you can find salvaged Camaro's reasonable. I bought a new 93 Z28 when they change the body style, at 100 miles an hour on straight highway it was like sitting in an easy chair.

I know a guy via the net that is putting a late model LS6 into a Mercedes. I can't recall if it is an SL or a 2 door hardtop. He is in Las Vegas and posts about his swap over at LS1Tech.com in the Conversions and Hybrids forum.

Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!
