37 Ford Fuel Door replacement options....
I want to replace the gas cap on my 37 Ford Tudor humpback with a round or oval fuel door. I've read mixed reviews on the Hagan fuel doors. Has anybody found a viable aftermarket or salvage yard option to graft into the fender of these phat Fords?
Thanks
Randy

One that I think works well is the fuel door from a '42-48 Ford, any passenger style. You can often find a complete fender that's rusted or crunched but the fuel door and the metal around the opening are in good shape. Just cut out that section with the door intact. The spring on the hinge is available as a repop so that's not a worry. They fit the contour of the fender pretty well, needing very little reshaping. To the early Ford inexperienced they will think it's factory to your vintage. Some think a lid from a minivan is good, and in some instances they work great, but they're too flat to match the fender shape without a bunch of work. Here's a pic of the one we did on my '36.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon
It's much easier to promise someone a "free" ride on the wagon than to urge them to pull it.
Luck occurs when preparation and opportunity converge.

Of course, sometimes those guys don't seem to say much good about anything that isn't really old school hotrod style! It'd be easier just to spend the $130.00 on the new part and be done with it rather than run around looking for something that might fit but I posed the question to see what other options are out there.....
Bob, that 42-48 fuel door looks pretty nice. Might be like finding a needle in a haystack though. I'll keep my eyes open and see what happens.
Thanks for the input guys. Anybody have anything to add?
