wire wheel rust removal
Im very new to rodding in general. I have a car that has been media blasted to bare metal then left to rust. I didn't let it rust! My father in law did ,but it wasnt his fault he passed away. I am now trying to attempt to finish the project for him. Can I wire wheel gently then spray a rust neutraliser on it? Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the site, I guess it would depend on how much rust has come back, if it’s been sitting you may have to have it blasted again. This time maybe you could use something a little less abrasive. You will get more response in the morning when people start waking up. Good luck to you, and if you have any pictures you could include them. Sorry about your father passing away.

Welcome to CHR! Pictures always help to tell the story and to solicit more exacting solutions. So some pictures of your rust problem may get you some excellent recommendations from people who have seen just about every kind of rust and restoration problem.
Sorry to hear of your father in law's passing. Any family death can be a tragic event. Many here have experienced similar events and sympathize....never criticize.Bob
A good friend will come and bail you out of jail....but a true friend will be sitting next to you saying..."Damn....that was fun!

Welcome and my condolences as well. I'm working on a similar project. I find that a 3m abrasive disc that mounts to a drill does a nice job of taking off the rough rust, and then hitting it with a rust converter, like Mar-hyde one step. After that , a quick light coat of etch primer, followed by primer( I use epoxy primer as I go, because it seals the metal so I don't have to worry about moisture getting in there and starting rust back up again. If your going to paint relative soon, your finish coat, then just use a primer recogmended by your local auto paint store that will work with whatever final finish your putting on. There are a lot of good old threads on here that cover many different ways to solving this issue. Good luck and post some photos as you go these guys are a wealth of usefull info!" "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

perhaps a drill and wire wheel fror your wire wheels.
Might get around the wires better than a disc.
what kind of car/wheels?

You could get one of the sand blasters from Harbor Freight and blast the car at home . The you could spray the neutralizer on it.Friends dont let friends drive fords!

new project
Thanks to all the people who gave me some excellent ideas. I appreciate the "non criticism" attitude you all have. I did post some pics on another site "wont mention" and within seconds I was getting some really nasty criticism. They said nasty stuff and being that the car and circumstances on aquiring it are very emotionally charged as you can imagine I foolishly said nasty stuff back ! Short of it I got kicked off and that was that. I had problems uploading pics and got the s*#t end of the stick for it. Thats pretty much whart started it all.I don't get that vibe here and will post pics soon , hopefully tonight. Thanks again...That's a pain that's gonna linger !!!

There are some forums that are notorious for the kind of behavior and attitude you ran into. We rarely, rarely have anything remotely like that happen here, and generally the members will correct it when it does happen, and we have a strong Moderator presence too.
Looking forward to seeing your pictures so we can better suggest some routes to take.
