Hi, I'm in the process of collecting parts and information for my 64 Ford Custom (fullsize) project.

What I've found out so far is that the spindle, rotor, caliper etc from; 74-78 Thunderbird, Cougar, Mercury, 77-78 LTD II, 74-76 Montego and Torino, and 74-78 Contentinal are all a bolt on. The rub is that most 14" wheels won't fit and some of the vehicles mentioned are 5 on 5 bolt circle (the Contentinals and some of the other full size Ford products in that era).

I've also been told that 75-78 Comet, Maverick, Grenada and Monarc set up will also work but the spindles need to be redrilled for the bigger ball joints tappers and it will result in about a 2" drop.

I haven't done much research into what I'll be using for a master cyl yet, but I figure that will be the easy part of the conversion.

    Hope this helps.

Would those spindles work on a 65 country squire too? I have the spindles from a 71-2 galaxie but I am worried about parts availability. Jeff

    disc brakes for 1964 galaxie

This information helps big time because the local salvage has a couple of the T-Birds from that era. Thanks again

In regards to using the spindles from a Granada and that style of car is the length of the steering arm the same. I did that swap on my 70 mustang and that part looks shorter on mine than the galaxie.

My understanding is that the critical dimensions for the spindles from the early 60 thru the late 70's fullsize ford cars are close enough that this is a bolt on swap and there fore should also work on the 65. The reason I was given for using the later spindels (74-79) is that the availability of rotors calipers etc is better/cheaper.

As far as the grenada swap, I really didn't research it too much as the drop was not something I want for my project.

    Disc brakes

My 70 Torino needs power disc brakes. I have a 73 Cougar with them, is this a relatively direct swap or will I have to find a different doner? Thanks
