    5 speed transmission

I have a 1986 Chevy truck 4wd automatic. I want to put a 5 speed transmission in it. Need help to find the right transmission and transfer case. 1986 differential is on the passenger side, all 5 speed that I have seen have differential on drivers side. Is there any chance that transfer case can be switched from older transmission to newer ones? Thanks for any ideas on this. Frank

    Frank,

Yes, some newer transmissions will work with old transfer cases, but unfortunately I'm a Ford guy so I can't give you any great info for your application. However, here is a website that specializes in GM trucks and they could tell you all you need to know about swapping transmissions.

    I hope that helps.
