    Unhappy cooling problem

any advice? i have two electric fans on my coupe but the are small because there is no room between the blower drive assembly and the fans...maybe 1/2"....i plan to change the radiator for an aluminum rad...but i cannot increse the fan size because i cannot move the grill shell forward...i can't find any larger fans with the same depth...i could possible fab a better shroud for the fans...i drive this car everywhere but it does not like to sit and idle for long...i'm overseas so cant take any better pics right now but img_1319 in my gallery you can kind of see my problem...

Two small fans do not add up to one large fan, funny as that might seem. For example, two 12 inch fans will not put out what one 16 incher will. But I understand what you are saying about space issues.

I had a radiator built one time that had two small puller fans mounted on a shroud, they were staggered. It also had two holes in the shroud with rubber flaps over them so that going down the road the air would escape the shroud and flow through better.

If you have no shroud now, that would be the first step, and putting two good fans, like Spal brand, will help too. But it may be that that blown engine just needs more cooling than you can fit in there. Locally there was a prostreet vette with a wicked blown motor in it, and he would trailer it to shows and even driving into the show off the trailer it would spit all the water out of the radiator.

The aluminum radiator will help too, especially if it is a good brand.

thanks don...i will try to find a larger fan if i can find one that will fit...but the fans there now are less than 2''...the car cools fine with any forward movement at all...even at WOT...i have checked everything i could think of...the thermostat opens at 180, the fan start runing as soon as you turn system power on...it has to be these fans...or some blockage in the radiator...i have not had it flushed because i am for sure going to replace it with aluminum...i could move the grill shell forward but i would have to redrill the fenders and move the lights forward as well..but the paint is flawless...i sure don't want holes in the fenders...i sure hope i can work this out with a new radiator and a different fan...

one more question...i read somewhere that larger exhaust system will also help with engine cooling on forced induction engines but the blame thing runs fine forward just doesn't like sitting still and there is no forced induction unless you are at WOT...so i don't think a larger exhaust will help me much...it has a 2" exhaust...

The fan Steve posted might be your salvation.

If a car runs down the road at any speed cool, but comes up when sitting at a light, it is because of insufficient airflow. The fan has to duplicate what you are getting when underway. Mine runs at 150-160 going down the road, but if I don't turn the fan on at a light it will start to creep up. When I turn it on the temp goes right back down to 150 or so.

just wanted to thank you guys for pointing me at this fan...got it put in yesterday...man...i can open the front window of the coupe and feel hurricane force winds... ...j/k...but it did fix the cooling problem...and looks great...they sent the wiring harness but not thermal switch for the cylinder head...so i wired it direct until it get here...that thing might make it run too cool...

    thanks again
