Fuse Box
I ve added an extra fuse box with 6 extra fused spade type connectors, I bought the box at my local auto parts store. This idea was suggested by members of this site to accommodate the electric choke, MSD distributer, power seats and dual electric fans along with an upgraded alternator. I was told to use 10 g wire from the "IGN" tab on the original fuse box to the extra fuse box. My question is, should I use an in-line fuse between the new fuse box and the original box ? The new fuse box has individual fuses for each connection. My vehicle is a 65 chevelle, 327, auto, with the above listed components. Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't add a fuse in the line. If you do make it a pretty heavy one because it's the weak link in the circiut.

I was asking because I am worried that if the glass type fuse next to the "IGN" tab goes out, all of the above listed components would go out as well right ?

If that tab is fused, the failure of that fuse would indded cause you to lose whatever is on that line. As long as the fuse we are talking about is of higher amperage than the individual fuses for the components it should not fail. The lower amperage one would instead. The "IGN" tab will only be lit when the key is on and you won't have your power seats with the key off. If it were mine I may source the seats with full time power(in line fuse off the hot side of the box) but it's not a big deal.

Alternator???
What type of alternator are you using?? How many wires run to it?? Does it use an external regulator?? You want to be careful using the IGN circiut to light it because you could get in a situation where you can't shut the engine off.Last edited by Daffy427; 09-03-2008 at 05:50 AM.

As of now, I have a stock 3-wire alternator with an external regulator. I havent started the motor since the upgrades so I am open to suggestions for an alternator.

I'm not all that familiar with those...I never wired one up...On the later ones I use the ACC side to power them...Otherwise they feed power to the ignition and you can not shut the engine off. You could also use a relay or a diode to keep it from back feeding..Maybe someone else knows about the early alternator...

I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
