    fender rolling

as you can probably see i own a 91 camaro and i just put a moser 9" in it with 28x11.5 rear tires on it and tey are just barely rubbing the fender lip. ive been looking into a fender roller but i just cant justify spending 300 dol for a fender roller that i am going to use twice. wondering if anybody had any ideas for me. thanks in advance

I made mine from a 3/4" 7075 aluminum plate, I took a scrap piece out of the trash, that was 1.5 x 14.00 long and sawed a slot wide enough to fit (we use a 3 or 5 tooth per inch wood blade) at an angle, then sawed away what was in the way, then belt sand it smooth, then take your time and walk your way around the lip. then you can make a different angle on the other end, to move it more, if need you need to. It was free.

You can go to the scrap metal dealer and get sawed scrap cheap.

I have 295x55x15's on 9" wheels on the rear of my '87 Mustang that just touched.

If you dont like the car too well you could always use the baseball bat method. Also at 300 bucks for the purchase price for the made to roll machine is not that bad, considering the cost of replacing new tires every month if you dont fix it right. You could always sell it when you are done with it.

You seem to have a bit of a canundrum there, can't spend $300 but have too much in the car to do the old baseball bat trick. Maybe you just need to get some different tires that fit.

no i think i probably need to stick with the 28x11.5 i have the money for it but who wants to spend 300 on a fender roller for a one time use if someone else has found a better way to do it...i think part of building a car is managing your money to better the car itself otherwise why do it? im not in this to waste money

It is really not a waste of money if it has to be done, also you could always resell the tool after you use it. Or keep it for future possible use, of a friend might need to rent it. I bought a 700.00 tubing bender to build one car. But now I can can build as many cars as I need to later down the road. You can never have too many tools.

    baseball bat trick:

put the car up on stands and stick a baseball bat between the tire and the fender, push the tire around to make the bat roller the fender pushing it outward?

I don't see why to spend $300.00, for something that is easy to make yourself, and then help a friend , and loan it to him/her. A fellow rodder helping another rodder out!
I make every tool or jig I can, that helps me get a job done, and buy what I can't make, and use the saved money else where.

Like crackers for the wife for the deer here!

A scrap piece 3/4" 7075 aluminum plate. Go to a metal scrap yard and get a scrap piece, it'll be cheap. Don't have them cut to size for you. thats were it will cost. put wax on the saw blade for lube.

It would be a good tech article if you had pictures of the home made roller.
Also there are lots of really hard wood. I have some purpleheart I scavenged years ago and also I have a cheap source for some ironwood in smaller dimensions.
