next dumb question
Hello all. Another dumb question. I know that Speedway has kits to change from drum brakes to disc brakes, hubs etc. for older ford axles.
I have a '49 ford F1 front axle, it has 5 x 5 1/2" lug pattern. I want to change to chevy 5 x 4 3/4". I actually prefer to have drum brakes etc.
Question is, Does anyone know if I can find a chevy front hub and bearing set that would go on the Ford spindle, OR, something else that would give me the Chevy lug spacing and have drum brakes? I don't have any inclination to have the ford drum/hubs redrilled.
Thanks in advance. Perley

I bought some adapters but they are about an inch thick so you need deeper backspacing. I got mine at Summit but here are some good deals:

Classic Performance Products makes a few conversion kits(mine is a front disc set up, using ford 5 x 5 1/2 disc, with gm rotors. No limit Engineering also sells kits and conversions for the F1's. I recently got a ton of catalogues that have F1 stuff. I peruse them and post yah if I see exactly what your looking for. The front disc conversion was super easy, using your stock spindle with a slide on bearing adaptor. (actually one of my first hotrod projects!)
If you change your mind and want to go with a disc setup, wildwood brakes are very popular here!" "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

speedway does offer a disc brake conversion that has a chevy pattern.

believe me use the disc brakes, I have never been happier that after I put the Speedway kit on my `47 Ford Coupe. it stops so much better.
I tried even power brake master with my drum brakes, it helped, but disc are great.
p.s. - the only dumb question is the one you don't ask. HA! HA!Last edited by 47coupelg; 09-20-2008 at 08:58 PM.

A buddy of mine put S10 hubs on 37 Ford pickup spindles and I think all he had to do was make a spacer to go behind the bearing.
I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
