    My rearend is wider on one side

     



    This is on my 32 open wheeled coupe. I measured my offset of the current wheels, checked for brake caliper clearance and side wall width etc. for my new wheels and tires this weekend. In doing so, I found out that the Drivers side of the rearend sticks out 1/2 inch further than the passengers side. I checked to make sure that the offset of both wheels are now the same. They are.
    Is this normal to have one side wider than the other by a little? I never noticed it with my naked eye, but the tape measure does not lie.

    When ordering my new wheels, should I order a 1/2 inch deeper offset on the drivers side to try and equal it out or just leave it alone and most people will never be able to tell. I am going from a 3 3/4 inch offset to a 5 1/4 offset.

    What rear axle??(make) Many of them are offset and if you center the driveshaft they will do what yours is doing.They have equal length axles and the yokes are offset usually more than a half inch.If it's only a half inch I would probably consider a spacer on the left side.

    If your wheels are the same width & offset, then your rear end is mounted off center by 1/4", if your wheel sitcks out (or in) 1/2".

    That has different length axles and the driveshaft is centered.. So as said by HTC, it's off center in the mounting by a little bit..A wheel spacer is still a good fix for it as long as you have long enough studs to handle it.

    You did not say what type of suspension you are running, but if you have a panhard/track bar an adjustable bar will also allow you to center the differential at static load, or you may be able to modify the bracket on either the frame or axle to account for the 1/4" offset.

    The 1/2 inch thick spacer on one side is a great idea. It is very hard when building a car, especially one with exposed underpinnings, to get everything exactly the same side to side. We have to tweak things sometimes to get them to look and fit right.

    I would also be curious what kind of suspension setup you have, because if something like coilovers with a panhard, you should be able to adjust it over that far.
