Different Headlight Sizes?
Hoping someone could help me. My 36 has the 8 3/4" rounded lens (9" body). I bought a pair of descent flat lens that will fit, but now I've decided after looking at a gazillion pictures I like the bigger lights.
What sizes came on what years? Like a Ford Model A. They look huge. I like that. And I like the flat lens. As I recollect, the ones I bought are Twilights. I do know that different lens projected the light in different ways. Just curious what has worked for you guys.
10"? 11" 12"? Flat lens. I'll be converting these to H4 with signals inside. Non-chrome.
I'd even buy new if the price wasnt crazy. Been all over the Inet and most of the flat style are 7"ers. Kind of like the ones RJay sells....Vintique Inc 28-29 81/2" flats. But wish they came in a plain finish and bigger.
I saw a Willys 3W years ago that I liked at car show. It had huge flat headlights. Absolutley loved them.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

I have Dietz on my 34, but have always like the Ford commercial lights. I know they come in 9.5" and 10" ring size with flat lenses, not sure about larger sizes. I think CW Moss sells them, probably many others as well.
But even though I like the larger commercial lights, I think my next light change will be to the Guide 682C type. They would probably look better.Last edited by mopar34; 10-21-2008 at 11:22 AM.

Ya gotta do a mock up with a piece of glass and some sort of tube before you spend the bucks on those big lights. Some cars just don't look right with those huge bug eyes staring at you. But of course, that's only my opinionDave W

I went from a King Bee 7-1/2" round to the Vintique Model A 8-1/2"quartz halogen. I lost brightness with this change. Wonder if all increase size changes to this? I too love the big light look. So much so that I plan ahead so I do not drive at night (I let the trucks hit the deer)."Chance favors the prepared mind"

Love all these big headlight car pics. I often thought of going to the bigger 1932 headlight! I did not think about brighter bulds taxing the elect system.
Anybody know about headlight conversions? Need help making BIG light bright.
Oops, I better watchout. I don't want to be accused of trying to make my 1931 into a Duece clone. LOL (Is that 1932 rear tank really dangerous?)"Chance favors the prepared mind"

3 - Under the splash shields - Tank's Inc make a pair of plastic/poly 6 gallon tanks that are fitted under the splash shield. Crawl under a car with these and you will find that the fronts of these tanks are the cars low point - especially in the event of a front wheel or suspension failure or off road excursion.
The rear '32 style tank, though still not optimum, IMO will give you the best chance to escape a gas fire in the event of a crash.

Bob Drake 32 Halogen
I used the Bob Drake 32 Halogen headlights on my 30 Model A roadster. They are very bright and really light up the night which makes things easier for my old eyes. They use the H-4 bulb. Right now they are on sale for half the price I paid for mine...which makes me cry, but that is the way my luck goes. I really like mine and would do it again.
