Off to the paint shop--finally
I finally got Shirley's Mustang ready for the paint shop. It will come back to us in HOK Kosmic Red with white GT stripes. I will put the new interior peices in when we get it back.
I will start another thread showing how I made the new interior panels and cover them as a "how to" if anyone is interested.

Thought I'd bring you up to date on Shirley's Mustang. Finally got it back from the paint shop the Mar.1st and having been finishing up the interior. She is really excited about warm weather and spending some time getting her hair blown.
What do you all think of having a snap on cover made. More for parking protection that as a top? She wants to drive it to work alot more this summer but is worried about leaving it open to the elements and the too curious passersby.
Give me some suggestions.

I think that is a really good idea about the cover. Would protect the interior from sun damage if nothing else. That is a fantastic paint job. I have been trying for 2 months to get mine ready for the paint shop. I think I hate bodywork the most.BARB

Shirley reminds me of how much I hate it every time I start a new project. So the question is Barb, Why do we punish ourselves so..?

looks cool. maybe i missed some information, but the front looks very much like a newer mustang. is that a modified bumper from an 05+?
the only problem with a snap on cover is that means you have to have the ugly snaps mounted on the car. maybe you could use a strap on canvas cover for a jeep (the one that covers just the open area to leave it parked). that may not fit too well though, but I'm sure something similar is made for roadsters.Last edited by 35fordcoupe; 03-12-2009 at 01:53 PM.

this is a real drawback. We had though of the strap on. California Car Cover offers them custom made, but they look kind of ugly/flimsy.

it may be ugly but its only for when its sitting, not cruising and you won't have the ugly snaps while you're cruising or showing it off uncovered . if it had snaps I might think its a boat'35 Ford coupe- LT1/T56, '32 Ford pickup, 70 GTO convertible, 06 GTO

Welll for a while last summer it was a boat.
Yeah I know what you mean about athe ugly snaps showing. I have a friend with a Lotus and it uses a chrome strip/channel/angle thingy on the winshield to hold the front of the top and the whole thing just rolls up and ties into a boot in the back. We had thought of that too, that way it could be used as a top for crusing also.
Ths straps are not out of the picture yet but keep those ideas coming.

I think that we punish ourselves because we hope we can see the big picture. What we hope it will turn out to be. Its that or either we are Masochist.BARB

I don't like the idea of snaps either. Would it be possible to have a cover made that encloses the entire cockpit from cowl to trunk with magnets sewn into a hem at the bottom? BTW, that is drop dead gorgeous.Last edited by NTFDAY; 03-12-2009 at 03:07 PM.
