unknown noise...
What the heck causes a slow, swirling, rubbing noise, which sounds like its coming from the center or rear of the car (77 corvette)? The wierd thing is that if I just lightly touch the brake pedel, the noise quits. Let off the brake pedel, the noise comes back. The longer you drive, the louder and more rapid the noise becomes. We checked the brake calibers thinking maybe one was lose... no luck. Any ideas...? thanks - kip

It could be that one of the six U joints is dry...Braking could be changing the load on it..Just a thought.I remember when hot rods were all home made.

Slow swirling noise??....I would say caliper......
If it was quicker, maybe "U" joint......
Determine is it once every revolution of the tire....or more....that will narrow it downHome Handyman Forum

A stone in the brake? Try backing up and pumping the pedal.
